Marhaba! (That`s hello in Arabic)
So last
week we received our miraculous Book of Mormon in Arabic! It`s really
neat. I learned the Arabic number system as I tried to read the page
numbers... it`s going to be interesting trying to invite the Alshibli
family to read verses because the Arabic language is completely
different than anything my companion and I understand. But we`re
excited!
This week we went to Santa Ana, a little town
where people go to vacation. There aren`t any missionaries there so we
decided to go contacting. It stormed that morning, so we weren`t able to
find many people, but it was a neat experience!
The family
we found from Syria is progressing! It is really difficult teaching
them because they barely understand Spanish at all. But this week we
found a restoration pamphlet in Arabic on the LDS website and printed it
out. We brought it to their house and we had the dad read some parts we
picked out to be able to teach them the restoration of the gospel. And
the Spirit was so strong! Meri (the dad) starting crying so much as he
read to his family. He would make commentary as he read--"si,
si....lindo". It was an amazing experience. It was a true testimony to
me that I don`t do anything--it`s the Spirit that truly teaches people.
All we could really do was testify in simple Spanish. "God. to love.
family" But the Spirit took care of the rest. The sad thing is that they
really feel lonely here in Uruguay and want to move out of the country
in September, so we`ll see how that ends up going.
