Week 61

December 28, 2015

Flooding Artigas

Dear Everyone,

Well, this Christmas meant something a little bit different for me and for everyone here in Artigas. After so many storms that we`ve had recently, the water level in the river rose and on Wednesday it started flooding the city. Our leaders gave us permission to spend the day running around, helping people move their furniture and everything out of their houses before the water got in. It was a crazy experience, I was amazed at how streets that we walk almost daily were completely flooded to the point that we saw a man swimming across one the streets. Even though it wasn`t the Christmas that everyone was expecting, I really learned a lot.

We came to a door to try to help and a lady named Olinka came out, she was so happy, she told us that she was our sister, that she is a member who came here from Montevideo to spend the holidays and she recently said a prayer so that someone would come and help her. We came at the right moment and helped her pack up her house. This definitely strengthened my testimony of prayer.

Fortunately the river has lowered by now and even though this experience was so crazy, we talked with a family that told us that this Christmas was more special for them, because they spent it in service to their family and for others, and that this experience helped them be closer. I know that everything happens for a reason, and that if we are grateful for our trials, that we can learn a lot from them.

Unfortunately Blanca won`t be able to be baptized this week, we`re not really sure what`s going on, but we`ll find out this week. We`ll be praying for her.

I love being a missionary and am so grateful for the opportunity to serve! I am so grateful to be a part of this marvelous and true work. I love you all and am thankful for the prayers and greetings. Happy New Year!
